Stephanie Cho

Stephanie Cho is the director of the Democracy Lab South, a movement incubation hub. She has over 20 years of experience in labor and community organizing, strategy, and fundraising at the local and national level.

Previously, she was the executive director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta. She grew a small staff of five to 25, adding several new departments, such as multilanguage legal representation, which included deportation defense and impact litigation. During her tenure, she created a space to nurture a new cadre of immigrant leaders, activists and organizers.

Earlier, she was the director of the Restaurant Opportunities Center of Los Angeles, where she worked to raise industry standards and wages for the city’s restaurant workers.

Cho, who was born in South Korea and raised in Oregon, has received numerous honors. She was the Atlanta Pride Marshall in 2019. The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies recognized her with the Community Engagement Award in 2021. She has received The Haas, Jr. Fund Award for Outstanding LGBT Leadership for Immigrant Rights. The Georgia Asian Times named her as one of the “25 Most Influential Asian Americans in Georgia” in 2017 and 2021. Georgia Trend Magazine named Cho one of the “100 Most Influential People in Georgia” in 2021.
