SPLC Action Fund Commends President Biden's Executive Order "Promoting Access to Voting"

Administration's support in enacting the For the People Act and restoring the Voting Rights Act essential to strengthen democracy, particularly in Deep South

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The following response to President Biden's March 7 Executive Order "Promoting Access to Voting" is by Margaret Huang, President and CEO for the SPLC Action Fund:

"We commend President Biden’s Executive Order today which reaffirmed his commitment to protecting and expanding the rights of all eligible voters to cast a ballot. We look forward to working closely with the administration and Congress to address particular barriers communities of color and those with disabilities or in jail face. We will continue to promote our recommendations on how best to address these conditions via executive and legislative actions.

"From our work in the Deep South, we profoundly agree with President Biden that a critical next step in protecting the fundamental right to vote is enacting the House-passed transformative democracy reform bill, the For the People Act, and restoring the power of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 by introducing and enacting the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act."
