Patrick Braxton is running for reelection as mayor of Newbern, Alabama. Braxton, who was elected to the seat in 2020, is Newbern’s first Black mayor. However, his first term has been unfairly marred by the town’s previous administration, which removed him from office shortly after the election and refused him access to the city’s accounts, records and town hall. Braxton regained his seat in 2024 after winning a settlement in which Newbern admitted to depriving citizens of their voting rights by passing the offices of mayor and council member from one administration to the next without holding municipal elections. Braxton, who has previously worked as a contractor and volunteer firefighter, is committed to ensuring that his constituents are fairly represented in local government and that Newbern’s resources are used equitably to revitalize the town.
