Tell the Senate and President Biden to protect voting rights by passing the For the People Act!

In the Deep South, voter suppression is the rule, not the exception. State legislators and officials have resisted common sense reforms like online voter registration and automatic voter registration while advancing and maintaining voter suppression policies like felony disenfranchisement, restrictive photo ID laws, massive voter purges and polling place closures.

The federal government is responsible for protecting the right to vote — the pillar of our democracy — for all. It’s past time to make the For the People Act law. It is also imperative to introduce and pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act to prevent further attempts to undermine the fundamental right to vote.

In March 2021, the For the People Act passed the House. Now, it’s up to the Senate majority leader to set the path forward for a vote.

The For the People Act is a once-in-a-generation package of proven reforms that would:

  • Reform and update absentee ballot systems;
  • Reform voter registration and redistricting;
  • End gerrymandering so that electoral districts are fairly drawn;
  • Combat voter purges;
  • End prison-based gerrymandering and restore voting rights for people with felony convictions in federal elections; and
  • Create a federal holiday and ensure early voting and polling place notice.

We need a democracy where voters are protected from discrimination and can make themselves heard at the ballot box. A democracy where electoral districts are drawn fairly, so that every voter’s ballot is of equal value.

Add your name now to demand the Senate and Biden administration make the For the People Act a priority.
