MONTGOMERY, Alabama — Today, the SPLC Action Fund endorsed Eldridge Jackson Jr. in the runoff election for mayor of Jackson, Alabama. A native of the city, Jackson Jr. has committed to supporting small businesses and providing more recreational opportunities for youth in an effort to encourage revitalization of the area. His campaign has centered on boosting economic development and beautifying the city with the goal of bringing back former residents to their previous communities.
“Eldridge Jackson Jr. understands that in order for families to put down roots in a city, they need to believe that economic prosperity is possible,” said Madison Hollon, program manager of political campaigns, SPLC Action Fund. “Too often in the Deep South, necessary investments in the local economy are ignored and younger generations seek out opportunity elsewhere. By committing to supporting entrepreneurship and to investing in enhancements that make Jackson a great place to raise a family, Jackson Jr. is ensuring that the city has a strong and vibrant future. The SPLC Action Fund believes that he is the right choice for mayor to deliver better economic opportunities to all of Jackson’s residents.”
The runoff election in Jackson is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 23. Learn more about voting in Alabama.
