NEW ORLEANS — Today, the SPLC Action Fund endorsed Chris Justin in his race to represent District 1 on the Louisiana Public Service Commission (PSC), the regulatory agency responsible for setting rates for public utilities throughout the state.

A licensed professional engineer and energy policy expert, Justin has previously served as a consultant for the Louisiana PSC, advising on how to lower the costs of electricity for ratepayers. He has championed energy efficiency programs and greater oversight of utility spending, while also working to reduce waste and save Louisiana’s families and small businesses millions of dollars.

Justin’s platform focuses on preventing rake hikes until utilities have proven that they have invested maintenance money to upgrade electric, gas and water systems; driving down costs for electricity by lowering the guaranteed profit rate, eliminating junk charges and forcing data centers to pay for their own power; and banning campaign contributions to commissioners from the utilities companies that they regulate.

“With Louisianans staring down the possibility of even higher price hikes for utilities like electricity, they need a commissioner who has a proven track record of finding effective solutions to make utilities more affordable,” said Madison Hollon, senior program manager of political campaigns, SPLC Action Fund. “Chris Justin offers residents a uniquely qualified candidate in that he has expertise in both engineering and regulatory policy. More importantly,  he has the backbone to stand up to utility companies and to make sure Louisiana’s families aren’t paying outrageous costs for subpar services.”

Elections will be held on Nov. 3, 2026. Learn more about how to vote in Louisiana.
