SPLC Action Fund Endorses Ciara Smith for Mayor of Anniston

MONTGOMERY, Alabama — Today, the SPLC Action Fund proudly endorsed Interim Mayor of Anniston Ciara Smith in her bid to retain the mayorship in the upcoming municipal elections later this month. Smith served as vice mayor of Anniston, Alabama, for almost five years before being elevated to the role of mayor in May, following the resignation of her predecessor. Smith is the first Black mayor of Anniston and the second woman to ever serve in the position.

“As the youngest-ever elected official in Anniston, Smith earned the support of her constituents by showing she had her finger on the pulse of the needs of hardworking families and community members,” said Madison Hollon, program manager of political campaigns, SPLC Action Fund. “She has stepped up when her community needed leadership and her commitment to investing in workforce development, affordable housing and youth mentorship programs will ensure Anniston remains a great place to live for decades to come. The SPLC Action Fund proudly supports the candidacy of Interim Mayor Smith, whose forward-thinking vision for a revitalized Anniston will provide opportunities for all of its residents to thrive.”
