SPLC Action Fund Endorses Candidates in Louisiana Municipal Races
BATON ROUGE, La. — Today, the SPLC Action Fund endorsed two candidates for municipal office in Baton Rouge and Amite City. These endorsements come as Louisiana local and state officials have doubled down on an extremist-backed agenda that aims to divide communities and diminish quality of life for residents.
“Divisive rhetoric and policies have no place in Louisiana — and voters have the opportunity in November to reject this extremist agenda,” said Madison Hollon, program manager of political campaigns for SPLC Action Fund. “We are proud to endorse Nick Laborde and Horace Martin, two candidates who put the community's needs first and seek to improve quality of life for all residents.”
Endorsements include:
- Nick Laborde, running for Public Service Commission District 2, is committed to reforming utility companies, holding them accountable and investing in the creation of sustainable communities. Laborde is a product manager, organizational leadership consultant and former video-game company owner.
- Horace Martin, running for Amite City Councilman District 4, is dedicated to creating economic growth, improving public services and enhancing the overall quality of life in Amite City. Martin is a barbershop owner.
The SPLC Action Fund is focused on confronting the state’s most urgent challenges, while championing progressive, forward-looking legislation and candidates that will empower communities of color and move Louisiana forward.
Statewide elections will be held on Nov. 5, 2024.
