SPLC ACTION FUND TARGETS BOEING, LOCKHEED MARTIN, NORTHROP GRUMMAN & RAYTHEON IN CORPORATE ACCOUNTABILITY CAMPAIGN

Local South Bay Companies Continue to be Top Corporate Supporters to Rep. Mo Brooks, Who Played Prominent Role in Insurrection

Los Angeles, Ca. – The SPLC Action Fund has announced a new effort targeting South Bay corporations—Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman and Raytheon—which continue to be top corporate supporters to Alabama Representative Mo Brooks. Brooks is a highly divisive figure known for his prominent role in the January 6th insurrection.

A week after the attack on the U.S. Capitol, the SPLC Action Fund called on these corporations to halt any further support and demand that he return all their 2019-2020 contributions. Last week marked five months since that call for corporate accountability was made.

“These companies are more than aware of the dangerous language and actions of Mo Brooks extending back a decade, and yet they have continued to provide him with financial, material, and moral support, most recently giving tacit backing to insurrection, treason and hate,” said Seth Levi, Chief Strategy Officer of the SPLC Action Fund. “The diverse workforce they rely on and this community they call home deserve to know that despite his harmful actions and rhetoric, these companies refuse to part ways with Brooks.”

Last night, the SPLC Action Fund projected images of some of his most divisive acts onto a Northrup Grumman building at the Space Park facility in Redondo Beach that include:

  • Brooks speech at the rally prior to the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol where he provoked the crowd yelling, “Start taking down names and kicking ass!”
  • Quoting Adolf Hitler on the House floor while reading Mein Kampf
  • Joking about shooting immigrants

Starting today, the first in a series of television ad campaigns will also begin with a thirty-second ad airing on multiple South Bay cable providers targeting both local and national programming. The advertisements also highlight these disturbing examples and close by asking, “So why are South Bay’s Northrup Grumman, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin and Boeing still supporting this radical right Congressman?”

“We have always had extremism in this country, but we have not always had members of Congress who themselves have spread such dangerous lies and openly incited violence – like the deadly siege on the Capitol,” said Eric Ward, Senior Fellow for SPLC Action Fund and Western States Executive Director. “Unless there are real consequences for these public officials, this will only continue and grow far worse for our nation and democracy.”

"During the past one year and a half, essential immigrant workers became frontline defenders in the fight against COVID-19. From working in the fields making it possible to feed American families, to providing critical and life-saving care in hospitals and clinics - immigrant workers have kept our country off the respirators. Representative Mo Brook’s hateful, anti-immigrant, and insensitive rhetoric has no place in our society. Our country does not need public officials sowing division and harming our communities. They should be thanking them and appreciating their contributions.   We need leaders that will promote unity, healing, and get our country back on track. The CHIRLA Action Fund stands with the SPLC Action Fund," stated Angelica Salas, CHIRLA Action Fund President.

“We will continue to fight for accountability by these and other corporations until hard-right instigators of hate like Mo Brooks no longer receive any form of support from them.” Said Levi.
