SPLC Action Fund to Host Candidate Forum for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Today, the SPLC Action Fund announced it will hold a candidate forum in the critical election contest for Alabama’s newly formed 2nd congressional district, just two weeks before the primary election. The forum will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the Civil Rights Memorial Center in Montgomery.

“We are excited to provide voters across the district with an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates,” said Brandon Jones, director of political campaigns for the SPLC Action Fund. “Candidates’ positions on progressive policy issues are extremely important to the electorate, so this forum will provide voters the chance to learn where they stand on key issues and their vision for achieving equity and justice in Alabama and across the Deep South.”

Late last month, the organization released a poll on the race showing voters’ concerns about having a representative who will further a progressive agenda prioritizing voting rights, rising costs of living and affordability of health care. The poll also found the race is wide open, with 47% of voters being undecided.

Candidate participation will be determined by measurable support through qualifying public polling and fundraising metrics – including both amount raised and number of individual unique donations

Media interested in attending can register by emailing press@splcactionfund.org. The event will also be live streamed.
